Question by jjsmmi: S&S 95" hot set up kit trouble? Hi not sure if anyone on here can help me but having some big troubles. Just installed a S&S 95" hot set up kit on a 03 dyna. The kit comes with cylinders, pistons, heads, gear drive cams, adjustable pushrods, and limited travel lifters. So after the install went to start her and heard a loud bang from the primary. Pulled the cover to find a destroyed clutch basket and a fried starter. So next step was to order a bigger starter, ordered a 2.0 starter and a new clutch b asket and put that in. This time when i tried to start it i left the primary cover off so i can see it and you can see the motor kicking backwards. I pulled the plugs and threw a compression gauge in and got 180psi out of cylinders. I decided that was too much so ordered compression releases. Installed the compression releases yesterday and tried to start it the motor turned over wel 08; with no kick back for about 4 seconds, the bike didnt start so i pumped the accelorator pump and tried it again. This time as soon as i hit the starter heard another fatal bang this time it sheared the jack shaft in half. I have another ordered already but am worried if i put this in i still havnt fixed my problem and something else would break. Unfortanatly for me I have already qouted this guy a price so all these new parts are comming out of my labor. Please help before i start dipping into my own pockets on this bike. on the first start i was using a dynatek ignition with a map close to stock, switched it back to stock ignition on the second try thinking that it was too far advanced but it still kicked back ...ckp checks out fine Best answer:

I'm not a Harley Davidson mechanic. Spark plug wires reversed?

You're gonna have to retard the timing. It's firing too far before top dead center causin it to kick back. High compression + too much advance = catastrophy. Also, I believe the timing comes off the crank position sensor. Make sure the leads from the cps are connected correctly.

I'd have to agree with Leif.It sounds like the timing is way to advanced.Did you static time the engine?I wouldn't try to start it again until you check all your work over again with regards to the timing of the engine.
